Today FLONIDAN ships unit no. one million to the Netherlands, reaching an important milestone in their contract with the four Dutch utilities Liander, Stedin, Enduris and Westland Infra. 

The one million smart gas meter is shipped two-and-a-half-years after deliveries started in June 2016 and ahead of schedule

“We have been able to ramp up production quite quickly because of a strong and continuous effort across the entire supply chain”, explains COO Anders Hornshoej. “This milestone is as much a testament to the will and engagement of our sub suppliers”.

The one million smart gas meters are part of the contract awarded to FLONISKRA, a consortium of Iskraemeco and FLONIDAN, which in 2015 was awarded the 235 € million smart metering contract by the four utilities, which together manage the majority of the Dutch gas and electricity market.  

“We have had a very open dialogue with Liander, Stedin, Enduris and Westland Infra throughout the entire process”, says CCO Morten Lang. “All parties wanted this to be a success and all worked hard to achieve it. I think, we are all quite proud”.

Besides delivering the specified SMR5 smart meters until 2020, the contract prescribed participation in the FAIR Meter project, - a set of requirements, that raise the bar on corporate sustainability and fairness without compromising the security and functionality of the meters. Within the project  FLONIDAN has mapped their entire resource strategy, changed internal processes and redesigned products to save material.
