Flonidan is proud to announce the positive award of a large contract for Smart Gas meters for the Dutch network company Enexis Netbeheer B.V.

For the period 2025-2028 FLONIDAN will supply more than 600.000 Ultrasonic SciFlo® Residential Smart gas meters as well as UniFlo® Commercial Smart Gas meters.

The SciFlo® meter is a patented measurement sensor that secures noiseless operation compared to traditional Diaphragm meters – which is still used in the UniFlo® for the commercial Smart Gas meters.

FLONIDAN has supported the Dutch market with the Smart Gas meter roll-out since the start 20 years ago and more than 50% of the Dutch Smart Gas meter installed base is running on FLONIDAN technology.

This contract is the first of several contracts to be tendered as a part of the Dutch energy strategy towards 2050 and the award is an important step to maintain FLONIDAN footprint in the Dutch Smart Gas metering marked over the coming decades.

FLONIDAN fact

FLONIDAN has been in the gas sector since 1982.

In the early years, we built and commissioned gas stations for metering and regulation. Stations came in all ranges for domestic, industrial, distribution and transmission purposes and were delivered as turn-key solutions including gas flow computer, configuration software and a system for control and monitoring.

In the early 1990´s we introduced the first smart gas meter with electronic temperature compensation. It was sold in countries where gas meters were installed outside and required temperature compensation to avoid loss. Extended temperature range, high accuracy and superior stability made this meter the safe choice for many gas utilities. After several reverifications, this first-generation meter is still in operation at some utilities.

Another landmark in the development of smart gas meters was an index based on optical sensing by Gray Code, a smart way of optical sensing, digitalizing the movement of the mechanical engine in the index.

We were involved, when the first smart gas meters were piloted in multi-utility applications in Netherlands. A dedicated Dutch Smart Gas meter with Wireless M-Bus communication was launched and sold in high volumes.

Since then, we have delivered 4.5 million Smart Gas Meters to projects in several European countries, among these 1.5 million to the Dutch consortiums Liander, Stedin, DELTA Netwerkbedrijf and Westland Infra. This order also paved the way for the first FAIR smart meter – a gas meter, which raises the bar on corporate sustainability and fairness without compromising the security and functionality of the meter.
